In a powerful throwback interview, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan shared his honest thoughts on relationships, rivalry, religion and even the famous fallout between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Known for speaking his mind, Salim didn’t hold back while explaining what he truly believes about love, respect and competition.

“You Can Love People With Differences”
During the interview, Salim Khan spoke about accepting differences. He clearly said, “You can love people with differences, it is not necessary that you have to be similar, you should love people with differences.”
To explain this, he gave an example from his own life. He said there are more than 50 differences between him and his son Salman Khan, yet his love for his son remains strong and he also pointed out that arguments do not end relationships.
And said, “Aap log isko bahut badi cheez samajthe ho – understanding.. understanding.. ‘bahut understanding hai miya-biwi mein’.”
He questioned the idea of “understanding” in relationships: “Understanding kya? Understanding is a worst thing that happened to our relationship. Understanding kya hai? Mujme kuch khamiya hai, der tak main jagta hu cigarrete peeta hu, main raat ko karate leta hu – meri biwi kehti hai ‘yeh mat kariye’ jispe agar irritation ya argument hota hai, main bhi apni biwi se kehta hu tum yeh mat karo.”
The Sholay writer further explained that avoiding arguments does not automatically bring love. According to him, “Ab jagda na hona aur argument na hona, iska matlab yeh nahi hai ki Mohabbat andhar aa gayi har relationship jo hai uska jo base hai vo hai Mohabbat.”
On Rivalry Between Salman and Shah Rukh
While further giving an example, when the topic shifted to the 2008 fallout between Salman and Shah Rukh, Salim Khan shared a direct perspective and said, “Aaj log baat kar rahe hai Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan ki ladai ho gayi 18 baras ki purani dosti.”
He questioned the idea of friendship between competitors, “Kis baat ki dosti? Rivals mein kabhi dosti ho sakti hai? Rivals mein ek courtesy ho sakti hai ‘hello, kaise ho bhai, kya kar rahe ho, yaha main shooting kar raha hu, acha aap kya kar rahe ho, are bhai happy birthday, are bhai salman mubarak ho tumhari picture chal gayi’”
He further added, “Yeh kya possible hai ke 2 rivals ke andhar Mohabbat ho sakti hai? dosti ho sakti hai? Rishta sirf Mohabbat ka ho sakta hai. Agar rishta khoon ka hota toh yeh Ambani brothers jo hai yeh aaj jaha hai vaha hote?”
And concluded, “Sirf Mohabbat ka rishta hota hai chahe vo maa-bete, baap-bete ya bhai-bhai ke andhar ho.”
