For decades, Shah Rukh Khan has ruled with his unmatched stardom and over the years he has been loved by audiences across generations and often referred to as the “last of the stars”. But in a recent conversation, Vivek Oberoi brought an unexpected point of view about Shah Rukh Khan that surprised many fans.

Speaking to Pinkvilla, Vivek shared that even the biggest icons may eventually fade from public memory with time. He explained that how history eventually moves on and he also given the example of legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor. While many cinema lovers still see him as a godlike figure, Vivek pointed out that a large section of today’s younger audience especially fans might not know much about him and not even know that he’s a grandfather of Ranbir Kapoor.

Vivek said, “Which film, starring who worked in the 1960s, you ask anyone about that today, nobody cares. You will anyway be relegated to history.” He added, “2050 mein log bolenge kaun Shah Rukh Khan, shayad.”
He further explained, “Like people today might ask, ‘Who is Raj Kapoor?’ You and I may call him the god of cinema, but many young people might not even know him. So maybe history relegates you into nothingness.”

During the conversation, Vivek also opened up about his early struggles before making his debut in Company (2002). He shared how he once cleaned rehearsal rooms and served tea while assisting Farah Khan, choosing not to reveal that he was veteran star Suresh Oberoi’s son.

On the work front, Vivek will be seen in Mastiii 4 directed by Milap Zaveri alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani which is set for the release on November 21.

Vivek’s comments have sparked discussion about legacy, relevance and time; and whether future generations will truly forget legends like Shah Rukh Khan only time will tell.
