Hema Malini and Dharmendra’s romance started in the early 1970s as they collaborated in the Bollywood film industry. Their initial encounter took place on the set of “Tum Haseen Main Jawan” (1970), where their on-screen connection swiftly blossomed into genuine feelings for each other. Nevertheless, their bond deepened significantly while working on “Sholay” (1975), a film that is regarded as a pivotal moment in both their professional and personal journeys.
At that time, Dharmendra was already wed to Prakash Kaur and had children, rendering their relationship contentious. Despite familial and societal pressures, Hema and Dharmendra stayed devoted to one another. It is said that Dharmendra converted to Islam to marry Hema without dissolving his first marriage, as Hindu laws forbid bigamy. They tied the knot in 1980 in a private ceremony and have two daughters together — Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
Today, May 2, marks the 45th wedding anniversary of Dharmendra and Hema Malini. The couple take pride in their daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol. Esha, demonstrating her affection, enhanced their celebration with a heartfelt post on Instagram.
The post features a nostalgic film still showcasing a younger Dharmendra and Hema Malini, where they share a loving gaze and radiant smiles.
