Varun Dhawan, the son of film director David Dhawan, completed his business studies at Nottingham Trent University. He started his career as an assistant director under Karan Johar for the film My Name Is Khan (2010) and later made his acting debut in 2012 with Johar’s teen drama, Student of the Year.
Varun Dhawan has not been appearing in films as often lately, which can be attributed to various factors, including the timing of his project releases and the dynamics of the industry.
Recent projects include Baby John (2024), an action thriller that was a Hindi remake of the Tamil film Theri, featuring Varun Dhawan alongside Keerthy Suresh and Jackie Shroff. Despite high expectations, it underperformed at the box office.
Another project, Citadel: Honey Bunny (2024), was an Indian adaptation of the international Citadel series, but Amazon Prime Video canceled it in April 2025 after one season, opting to merge its storylines into the main Citadel series.
Looking ahead, Varun Dhawan will reprise his role as Bhaskar, the werewolf, in Bhediya 2, a sequel to the 2022 horror-comedy, set for release in 2025.
He is also slated to star in No Entry 2, a sequel to the 2005 comedy, alongside Arjun Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh, with filming expected to commence in December 2024.
Notable hits in Varun Dhawan’s career include Badlapur (2015), a critically acclaimed revenge thriller; Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), a commercial success grossing over ₹200 crore worldwide; Judwaa 2 (2017), a successful masala entertainer; Street Dancer 3D (2020), which performed well despite pandemic challenges; and Bhediya (2022), praised for its unique concept and performances.
Although Varun Dhawan’s recent filmography may appear limited, he remains engaged in significant projects that are either in post-production or slated for future release, as the entertainment industry often experiences delays between filming and release dates, resulting in periods of reduced on-screen presence for actors.
