Bipasha Basu is primarily recognized for her contribution to Hindi cinema. She has been awarded the Filmfare Award for her acting. During the 2000s and 2010s, she gained fame for her roles in thriller and horror films as well as her appearances in various item numbers.
The Bollywood film Race, directed by Abbas-Mustan, was released in 2008. It was an action crime film, the first instalment of the Race franchise. Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy were seen in lead roles.
Sameera Reddy was also seen in the film along with Bipasha and Katrina. Sameera used to mingle with every actor on the set, but Bipasha and Katrina never talked to each other during the shooting. The director knew about their rivalry, so he shot both the scenes separately. Luckily, both the actresses got minimal scenes together.
To avoid the possible consequences of their petty fights on the sets, director Abbas Mustan made it clear to the two leading ladies of Race that their costumes and looks would be designed as per their scenes, thus avoiding fights on the sets.
The shooting of the film was completed without any major problems or unpleasant moments on the sets. Then trouble arose when Bipasha and Katrina refused to promote the film together. Hence, the filmmakers planned to promote the film with Bipasha and Katrina on separate dates.
In 2008, Katrina had talked about her and Bipasha’s rivalry when she participated in the show Koffee with Karan with Lara Dutta. In the show, Karan asked Katrina many things about her personal life and asked about her rift with Bipasha. Reacting to the whole issue, Katrina was heard saying, “It’s something that honestly you must ask her. I tried to clarify my views and my point of view on the whole issue, which did not include anything.”
It is a common thing in Bollywood that many actresses do not like to share the screen together. But most people did not know about the catfight between Katrina and Bipasha.
The film Race was shot in Durban, Goa and Dubai. The film was widely praised for its editing, screenplay, music, performances of the cast and cinematography. The film did a good business and grossed Rs.173 crore worldwide and emerged as the 6th highest grossing film of the year.
