The discussion around Kalki 2898 AD sequel continues to grow, especially after Deepika Padukone’s reported exit from the franchise. Over the past few months, several names, including Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi, have been linked to the project. However, director Nag Ashwin has now made it clear that no official casting decision has been announced yet.
During a recent conversation with Great Andhra, the filmmaker was asked about the future of Sumathi, one of the most important characters in the Kalki universe.
Responding to the speculation, Nag Ashwin said, “We need to announce who plays Sumathi character in Kalki 2. As of now everything is speculation only. Character will be there for sure which we can’t remove as it’s a very important character.”
His statement confirms one thing clearly — Sumathi will remain a key part of the sequel, but the actor playing the role is yet to be officially revealed.
The biggest takeaway from Nag Ashwin’s statement is that Sumathi’s character remains central to the franchise. Removing her from the narrative is not an option, making the casting announcement one of the most anticipated updates surrounding the sequel.
