The Trial: Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha Season 2 Review – The Taareek Pe Tareek Saga Continues

The Taareek Pe Tareek Saga Continues

The Indianised version of The Good Wife started streaming two years ago when Kajol headlined the show as mother, wife and hotshot lawyer Noyonika Sengupta. A sex scandal involving husband Rajiv (Jisshu Sengupta) had blown apart Noyonika’s domestic bliss topped with a growing attraction for her colleague Vishal (Alyy Khan). The Senguptas survived it all. Does Season 2 offer anything new? The Lehren review takes a look.

The Trial: Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha Season 2 Critic Review:

This time around, there’s no sex scandal rocking the Senguptas who’ve settled down in Mumbai.

In fact, there is only the past that keeps popping up like a bad penny. But there is the addition of Narayani (Sonali Kulkarni), a true-blue Maharashtrian lady politician. Throwing the outsider card at opponent Rajiv Sengupta (Jisshu Sengupta), shaming him for his gay brother-in-law’s part at a Gay Pride gathering and enjoying a concert while her raid squads create a half-hearted upheaval at the Sengupta residence, Narayani is the clear vamp of electoral rivalry.

It’s good old dirty politics (nothing new out there) that overtakes shame and scandal in the family.

Stepping in to help her husband is good wife Noyonika (Kajol) who oscillates between family loyalties and her chemistry with colleague Vishal Chaubey (Alyy Khan), also grappling with her conscience at the workplace.

A few stray legal cases find Noyonika making time for the courtroom where clients like social media influencers get their turn under the spotlight.

Despite attempts by director Umesh Bist to infuse freshness, the domestic mess-ups and office intrigues seem like a continuation of the first season’s template. Somehow, at the end of the new season it feels like you’re standing exactly where you were at the beginning. The Sengupta couple’s marital tensions don’t offer anything new. Fresh squabbles, if any, tumble out of the lives of side players like investigator Sana Shaikh (Kubbra Sait).

Kajol, Jisshu Sengupta, Sheeba Chadha (as senior partner Malini in the law firm), Alyy Khan and Kubbra Sait are as efficient as expected.

It is the absence of ‘sit up and notice’ twists in the writing that underwhelm the viewer.

The Trial: Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha Season 2 – Watch Or Not?: If one were to skip this season and go to Season 3, one wouldn’t have missed anything.

The Trial: Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha Season 2 Review Score Rating: 2 out of 5 (i.e. 2/5)
