Christopher Nolan is sticking to his love for cinema the old-school way. The Odyssey teaser trailer is now playing exclusively in theatres, shown before screenings of Jurassic World: Rebirth. Following his Oppenheimer strategy, Nolan once again decided not to release the trailer online. That hasn’t stopped some fans from leaking phone-shot footage on social media, much to Universal’s concern.
What’s In the Teaser?
The 70-second teaser gives the first look at The Odyssey, Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic poem. The teaser opens with a shot of a stormy sea and the remains of the Trojan Horse. We hear a mysterious voice say, “Darkness. Zeus’ law smashed to pieces. I’m without a king since my master died. He knew it was an unwinnable war. And then, somehow, he won it.”
In one of the key moments, we see Tom Holland as Telemachus speaking with Jon Bernthal’s character. “I have to find out what happened to my father. When did you last see him?” Holland asks. Bernthal responds, “I know nothing of Odysseus, not since Troy. Interested in rumour, huh? Gossip. Who has a story about Odysseus, huh? Some say he’s rich. Some say he’s poor. Some say he perished. Some say he’s imprisoned. What say you?”
The final shot shows Matt Damon as Odysseus, lost at sea on a wooden raft.

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal. With a $250 million budget, it is Nolan’s most expensive project and is being filmed entirely in IMAX across several countries.
The Odyssey teaser trailer ends with a bold line – “One Year From Now… A Journey Begins.” The film hits theatres on July 17, 2026. Fans can expect an epic ride but only if they watch it on the big screen.
