Terence Lewis is undoubtedly one of the most renowned choreographers in the industry. However, few are aware that he once had aspirations of becoming an actor. In a recent interview, he disclosed that 25 years ago, he was offered a role in a dance-centric film but was ultimately replaced by a star kid just prior to the shoot.
He recounted, “Approximately 25 years ago, I had just completed my college education and was gradually receiving modeling offers. I also participated in several music videos, and one director, who was working on a dance-oriented film, approached me. He said, ‘I believe you were fantastic in this music video, and I think you would be an excellent fit for my film.’ I auditioned for the role, but just before filming began, he called to inform me, ‘I’m sorry, but I have to choose someone else.’ That individual was connected to the industry, a star kid, or at least someone with industry ties. At that time, I was unaware of what nepotism meant!”
He continued, “Fortunately, my dance career was thriving at that moment. I felt disheartened for a few days, but my dance institute kept me occupied, and I had to dedicate myself to it. Luckily, I possessed a secondary talent that provided me with financial support through dancing. I realized that instead of wandering around seeking opportunities, I should concentrate on my strengths. I decided to set aside my acting aspirations, prioritize dance, and achieve financial stability, which was my primary concern at that time. I did not have a father who would say, ‘Pursue whatever you wish; we will support you.'”
Terence gained widespread recognition after becoming a judge on the reality show Dance India Dance. While he is an exceptional choreographer, he is also regarded as one of the most beloved judges on dance television shows.
