    Coronavirus News: WHO urges ramped-up COVID-19 ‘dexamethasone’ production

    WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus has called for rapid increase in production of dexamethasone, after British clinical trials found the steroid had life-saving potential for critically-ill coronavirus patients. He stated that dexamethasone demand has already surged.

    WHO: Trial of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 treatment to resume

    WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus today said that the trial of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of coronavirus will resume. "On the basis of the available mortality data, the members of the committee recommended that there are no reasons to modify the trial protocol," he said.

    COVID-19: Brazil reports over 1,000 daily deaths for first time

    Brazil on Tuesday reported 1,179 deaths from coronavirus, the highest increase in its daily virus deaths so far, the country's Health Ministry said. The death toll from coronavirus in Brazil rose to 17,971, it added.

    Gilead has licensed remdesivir to 5 drugmakers in India and Pakistan who can make the experimental COVID-19 drug for distribution in 127 countries. The companies are Cipla, Hetero Labs, Jubilant Lifesciences and Mylan in India and Pakistan's Ferozsons Laboratories.

    Japan's largest drugmaker Takeda said it's developing a plasma-derived drug for high-risk patients infected with the coronavirus. The research would require plasma from the blood of patients who have recovered or who have been vaccinated, once a vaccine is developed.
