Sunjay Kapur, a 53-year-old industrialist and former spouse of actress Karisma Kapoor, sadly died on June 12, 2025, while participating in a polo match in Windsor, England. Reports suggest that he collapsed after ingesting a bee, resulting in anaphylactic shock and a subsequent heart attack.
Due to Sanjay Kapur’s citizenship in the United States, there have been complications in the process of repatriating his remains to India. His father-in-law, Ashok Sachdev, has confirmed that the funeral will be held in Delhi once all necessary legal procedures are finalized.
Sunjay Kapur was a passionate polo enthusiast. He owned the Sona Polo team and actively took part in both domestic and international polo competitions. His enthusiasm for the sport was widely acknowledged, and he was esteemed as a significant figure within India’s polo community.
Sunjay Kapur served as the chairman of Sona Comstar, a worldwide automotive firm, and was recognized for his close relationship with Prince William. He was formerly married to Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two children, and subsequently wed Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son.
At the time of his passing, Sona Comstar, under the leadership of Sunjay Kapur, was valued at approximately ₹31,000 crore. The future governance of the company is anticipated to be handed over to his immediate family from his second marriage. Priya Sachdev is projected to assume responsibility for overseeing the business empire, although no formal announcements have been made as of yet.
