Akshaye Khanna began his acting journey concurrently with Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, who all entered the entertainment sector around the same time. While the other four actors have achieved significant fame, Akshaye has not experienced the same level of success. Nevertheless, he has expressed his thoughts on not attaining superstar status, despite his notable performances in films such as Dil Chahta Hai, Border, Taal, Hungama and Chhaava.
In a prior interview with Anurradha Prasad, Akshaye remarked, “As an actor, it is your films that elevate you to superstardom. You require hits like Gadar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Hum Aapke Hain Koun! to achieve that status. Ultimately, you can only make an effort; if those films are meant to be part of your journey, they will come to you.”
He further explained, “Consider me as a businessman with a Rs 500 crore enterprise. Would I not be deemed successful until I reach the stature of Ratan Tata or Dhirubhai Ambani? Until I attain the level of Shah Rukh Khan, does that mean I have not experienced success or become a star?”
The actor elaborated that in a nation with a population exceeding 1.2 billion, only 15 to 20 individuals attain the status of lead actors, which he considers a significant privilege. He emphasized that not achieving the level of fame of someone like Shah Rukh Khan does not preclude him from being a successful actor. He prefers to maintain his authenticity rather than conform to industry trends, such as frequent party attendance or courting controversy, and is willing to withdraw if necessary.
On the professional front, Akshaye was recently featured in the hit film Chhaava, where he portrayed Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The film also includes notable performances from Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Dia Mirza, Ashutosh Rana, and Vineet Kumar Singh in key roles.
Looking ahead, the actor is poised to appear in Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film Dhurandhar, sharing the screen with Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Dutt, among others.
