Punjabi superstar and singer Diljit Dosanjh is once again making headlines as he finds himself embroiled in controversies. Amid the ‘Sardaar ji 3’ debate, an old video of the singer-turned-actor is also facing criticism from a veteran singer. For those who are unaware, during his ‘Dil-Luminati Tour’, Diljit recited the poem ‘Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai’ by the late lyricist Rahat Indori, which has sparked strong reactions on social media. While some users labeled this statement as anti-national, many fans interpreted it as a message promoting unity and equality.
During this discussion, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya delivered a pointed response to Diljit. He shared a video on his social media account in which, after showcasing a segment of Diljit’s statement, he asserted, ‘Hindustan belongs to our father, to our ancestors and we are proud of it.’ Additionally, Abhijit waved the tricolour and played the song ‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha’ in the background.
It is important to mention that Diljit Dosanjh will be seen alongside Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’. Consequently, many users on social media have criticized him and questioned whether such casting is appropriate given the current state of India-Pakistan relations.
Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali has publicly expressed his support. Imtiaz stated, ‘Diljit possesses a profound sense of patriotism. He has always been truthful and genuine. Those who truly understand him will grasp the true significance of his words.’ Imtiaz, who collaborated with Diljit on Amar Singh Chamkila, further mentioned that at the conclusion of each concert, Diljit concludes his performance by displaying the Indian tricolour and proclaiming ‘Main hoon Punjab’. He noted that the choice to collaborate with any artist is not solely his decision. He remarked, ‘An actor is merely an actor; the remaining decisions regarding the film are made by the producer and director.’
Despite the controversies and the absence of a release in India, the film Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh alongside Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, has become the highest-grossing film in Pakistan. It generated Rs 3 crore on its opening day, establishing it as the largest opener for an Indian film in Pakistan, surpassing Salman Khan’s Sultan.
