Filming For The Next Installment Is Slated To Commence In November 2023, With An Anticipated Release Next Year

Kantara emerged as a massive hit at the box office, garnering critical acclaim. Despite its modest budget of only Rs 16 crore, the film achieved a staggering earnings of Rs 450 crore. Recent reports strongly suggest that a second installment, “Kantara 2,” is in the works, set to be produced with a significantly larger budget.

According to a Bollywoodlife report, the sequel’s budget is expected to reach a substantial Rs 125 crore, a considerable increase compared to the original “Kantara.”

Initially released in September 2022, “Kantara” featured Rishab Shetty in the lead role, also taking on writing and directing duties. The film received widespread appreciation, winning over celebrities, political figures, cricketers, and the general audience alike.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, highlighted “Kantara” in a recent parliamentary address. Thakur referenced the film while discussing the successful passage of The Cinematograph (Amendment Bill) 2023 in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. This example showcased the growing global recognition of Indian cinema.

Turning to the prequel’s plans, filming for the next installment is slated to commence in November 2023, with an anticipated release next year. During a celebratory event, Shetty expressed gratitude to the audience for their immense support and love for “Kantara.” He revealed the forthcoming prequel and remarked, “What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year.” Shetty elaborated on the inspiration for the prequel, explaining, “The idea flashed into my mind while I was shooting for ‘Kantara’ because the history of ‘Kantara’ has more depth to it.” He also shared that the research is ongoing, and more details about the film will be unveiled at a later stage.
