The ongoing divorce proceedings between Tamil actor Ravi Mohan and his estranged wife Aarti Ravi have taken another important turn. A Chennai Family Court has rejected Aarti Ravi’s request seeking ₹40 lakh per month as interim maintenance. Instead, the court has directed Ravi Mohan to pay ₹3 lakh every month until the divorce case reaches its final conclusion.
The decision comes after months of legal proceedings between the couple who have been involved in a dispute over maintenance, child custody and other matrimonial issues.
Why Did Aarti Ravi Seek ₹40 Lakh Per Month?
Aarti Ravi had approached the court seeking ₹40 lakh as monthly interim maintenance. In her petition, she stated that the amount was required to support herself and the couple’s two sons while the divorce proceedings were underway. She also claimed that she had been managing the children’s education and daily expenses without receiving sufficient financial support.
After hearing both sides, the Family Court declined her request and fixed the interim maintenance at ₹3 lakh per month. The question of permanent maintenance and other financial claims will be decided during the final judgment of the divorce case.
The Legal Battle So Far
Ravi Mohan and Aarti Ravi, the daughter of film producer Sujatha Vijayakumar, got married in 2009 and have two sons. In September 2024, Ravi Mohan publicly announced their separation, which was followed by legal proceedings related to divorce and maintenance.
Earlier, Aarti had moved the Madras High Court, stating that her maintenance petition was being delayed before the Family Court. The High Court directed the lower court to dispose of the matter within a fixed timeline. Ravi Mohan later sought more time to complete the proceedings, but his request was reportedly rejected.
The case has remained in the spotlight ever since, with both parties making separate legal submissions regarding financial support and other issues.
What Happens Next?
The latest order only deals with interim maintenance during the pendency of the divorce proceedings. The Family Court will continue hearing the case before deciding on permanent maintenance, child-related matters and other matrimonial claims in its final judgment.
