Ranbir Kapoor has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Mahadev online betting app case, stirring up quite the buzz in the tinsel town. As per the reports, Ranbir has to appear before the probe agency on October 6.
Reports suggest that Ranbir received substantial payments for the promotions of the app. However, he isn’t the only celebrity under the ED’s watchful eye. A bunch of stars, including Bollywood actors, singers, and comedians, are currently under scrutiny for their participation in the extravagant wedding of Sourabh Chandrakar, the co-promoter of the controversial betting app. This lavish event took place in Dubai and has raised eyebrows regarding potential money laundering activities.

Sources within the agency have hinted at the possibility of summoning some of these celebrities as witnesses in the ongoing money laundering case surrounding the platform. The ED has conducted extensive searches in various cities, spanning from Kolkata to Bhopal and Mumbai, in pursuit of alleged money laundering networks linked to the UAE-based Mahadev Online Book App.
The case alleges that the platform facilitated large-scale hawala operations, enabling the transfer of betting proceeds to offshore accounts. “Chandrakar and MOB platform’s other promoter Ravi Uppal have created an empire for themselves in the UAE. The sudden and illegal riches are being openly flaunted by them,” ED sources revealed.
The extravagant wedding, reportedly costing a staggering Rs 200 crore, has also piqued the agency’s interest. ED investigators are diligently tracing the money trail to ascertain the ultimate beneficiaries. According to sources, celebrities who graced the event with their performances were compensated with substantial fees through questionable financial transactions.
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in massy-action film titled Animal. The film also features Rashmika Mandanna and Anil Kapoor. It is slated to hit the theatres on Dec 1, 2023.
