Padmini Kapila, a well-known actress of the late 70s and 80s, won hearts with memorable roles in films like Laawaris, Shaan and Ghungroo. Along with her work, she often found herself in the middle of gossip. While her relationships with Navin Nischol and filmmaker Prakash Mehra were widely talked about, one more rumour connected her name was with veteran screenwriter Salim Khan.
In a recent exclusive interview with us, Padmini Kapila addressed these stories and openly admitted that she was once involved with Navin and Prakash but when asked about Salim Khan, her reply was clear and straight, “No no, nothing at all.”
Veteran journalist Bharathi S. Pradhan reminded her of an earlier conversation with Salim Khan, where he had humorously said, “Itni khubsurat ladki ko maine response nahi diya toh I’m an idiot.” On hearing this, Padmini laughed and explained, “What is there to deny when there is nothing. He said that because he’s a dialogue writer.”
When asked if the Khan family including Salman, ever believed in such rumours or reacted to them, she avoided speculating and exclaimed saying “You should ask them that,”adding that she has known Salman since before his debut days.
