Mumbai Police questioned Ektaa Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor on October 22 as part of an investigation into an episode of the web series Gandi Baat, produced by under their home production ALT Balaji. A case was filed on October 20 under the POCSO Act, accusing them of showing inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in one episode. The charges were filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the IT Act and Section 295-A of the IPC.
The allegations claim that Gandi Baat included explicit scenes involving young girls, possibly underage, which raised concerns. The complainant pointed out that some characters resembled minors aged 16 or 17. Additionally, there were complaints about smoking and alcohol scenes without proper warnings. The episode in question aired between February and April 2021, but it is no longer available on the streaming platform.
During questioning, the Mumbai Police asked Ektaa Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor for information on the actors and directors involved in the series. They also requested documents related to the show’s production. The two have been called for further questioning on October 24.
Although the producers face serious charges, the investigation is still ongoing. The police will also speak to the actors and crew for more details. As of now, the episode is not available online, but legal proceedings continue, and more updates are expected soon.
