Mohanlal’s Resignation Comes After Prithviraj Claimed AMMA ‘Made A Mistake’ In Mishandling Cases!

Mohanlal's resignation fuels debate in the Malayalam film industry; changes within AMMA expected soon.

Mohanlal’s resignation as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has sparked significant discussion in the Malayalam film industry. This decision came shortly after Prithviraj Sukumaran, a leading actor in the industry, publicly criticized AMMA for failing to address sexual assault cases within the industry. Prithviraj’s comments brought attention to the alleged mishandling of such serious matters by the organization.

The controversy escalated when the Hema Committee Report revealed several disturbing allegations, including sexual assaults on female artists, inadequate facilities, and gender bias within the industry. These revelations led to a public outcry, particularly directed at prominent figures like Mohanlal and Mammootty, for their perceived silence on the issue.

In response to the growing pressure, actors like Tovino Thomas and Prithviraj Sukumaran demanded swift action against those accused of misconduct. Mohanlal’s resignation came soon after these demands, marking a significant turning point in the ongoing debate. Alongside Mohanlal’s resignation, several other key members of AMMA also stepped down, signaling a broader shake-up within the organization.

The resignations included General Secretary Siddique, who faced allegations of sexual assault, Vice Presidents Jayan Cherthala and Jagadish, Joint Secretary Baburaj, Treasurer Unni Mukundan, and several executive committee members, including Ansiba Hassan, Sarayu Mohan, Vinu Mohan, Tini Tom, Ananya, Suresh Krishna, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jomol, Joy Mathew, and Tovino Thomas.

AMMA’s official statement acknowledged the need for change, stating that the executive committee decided to step down on moral grounds following the allegations. The organization also announced that a new committee would be formed through elections within two months.

This incident has seen several actresses coming forward to share their experiences, naming well-known industry figures like Jayasurya, Maniyapilla Raju, Mukesh, Idavela Babu, and others.
