Michelle Trachtenberg Passes Away At 39: Blake Lively, Ed Westwick & Hollywood Mourns Her Loss

Michelle Trachtenberg's sudden demise left Hollywood and her fans in deep shock with several co-stars and industry friends paying heartfelt tributes.

Michelle Trachtenberg, the beloved American actress known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl, Harriet the Spy, Truth or Scare, EuroTrip, and more has passed away at the age of 39. Her sudden demise left Hollywood and her fans in deep shock with several co-stars and industry friends paying heartfelt tributes.

According to the New York Times, emergency responders were called to Trachtenberg’s Manhattan apartment at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, where she found unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene and while the exact cause remains undisclosed, sources told ABC News that she recently underwent a liver transplant and may have experienced complications.

Hollywood Stars Pay Tribute

Blake Lively, who starred alongside Michelle in Gossip Girl shared a long and emotional tribute on Instagram story by posting a picture from their first meeting. She wrote, “She was electricity. You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%. She laughed the fullest, faced authority head-on, and cared deeply about her work. She was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved. She always had caramel-scented lip gloss on because she didn’t just want to sparkle on camera—she wanted to create a nice experience for everyone around her. The world lost a deeply sensitive and good person in Michelle. May her work and huge heart be remembered.”

Another Gossip Girl co-star Ed Westwick also to his Instagram story and expressed his grief, sharing a solo picture of Trachtenberg with the caption: “So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg. Sending prayers.” Including the actress Rosie O’Donnell, who worked with Michelle in Harriet the Spy, shared her sorrow saying, “She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped.”

Also, several Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-actors including James Marsters, David Boreanaz, and Alyson Hannigan, also paid their respects, remembering her kindness and immense talent. Kim Cattrall, who starred with Trachtenberg in Ice Princess, shared a nostalgic photo from the film, writing, “Rest in peace, Michelle,” with a broken heart emoji.

Born and raised in New York, Trachtenberg started her career as a child actress gaining recognition for Harriet the Spy and The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Her breakout role came as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which she played from 2000 to 2003. She later gained further fame as Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, a role she portrayed from 2008 to 2012.

Beyond television, she starred in films such as EuroTrip, 17 Again and The Scribbler. Her final acting credit was a cameo in the Gossip Girl reboot in 2022.
