The first look of Matt Damon as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film The Odyssey is finally here! The movie which is based on Homer’s epic poem, follows Odysseus on his long journey home after the Trojan War. WIth a stellar cast and an IMAX release, Christopher Nolan aims to bring the legendary tale to life in an immersive cinematic experience. The Odyssey is set to hit theatres worldwide on July 17, 2026.
Taking to social media, the film’s official page shared a teaser image featuring Matt Damon dressed as Odysseus. Though his full look remains partially hidden, the image captures him in profile, wearing a battle-worn warrior suit. The post read, “Matt Damon is Odysseus. A film by Christopher Nolan, #TheOdysseyMovie is in theaters July 17, 2026.”
Beyond Matt Damon, The Odyssey boasts a high-profile cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, and Jon Bernthal. The film will also feature Mia Goth, rumored to portray a mythical siren, and other supporting actors such as Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton.

Shot across multiple locations worldwide, including Sicily, the film will be presented in IMAX format, marking the first time Homer’s classic saga is brought to the big screen in this format. Universal Pictures which previously collaborated with Nolan on Oppenheimer, will distribute the film.
For those unfamiliar, The Odyssey narrates the trials and adventures of Odysseus as he strives to return to Ithaca after the Trojan War. His journey is filled with mythical creatures, divine interventions and personal challenges, making it one of the most celebrated stories in literature.
With The Odyssey, Nolan continues his trend of ambitious storytelling, reuniting with Matt Damon after Interstellar and Oppenheimer. As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await more glimpses into this grand adaptation.
