Karan Johar takes a dig at nepotism trolls while announcing a new film. Could it be ‘Kesari Chapter 2’? Read on!

Karan Johar has often faced the criticism for promoting star kids in Bollywood. This time the backlash followed the release of ‘Nadaniyaan’ the recently released netflix film which featured Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan. many viewers felt their performances were underwhelming, sparking another round of nepotism accusations and amid this, filmmaker Karan Johar took to social media to respond to his critics while announcing a new film with a debutant director.

Sharing a long note on Instagram, Karan Johar revealed that his upcoming project will mark the 24th debutant director under Dharma Productions. He emphasized that 90% of these newcomers were “outsiders”. The filmmaker wrote, “When I began producing films (once I stepped into Dharma as an active part of the company), in 2003 with Kal Ho Naa Ho – the idea was to empower filmmakers and storytellers…to pay it forward. We got it right…we got it wrong but the intent was always to put out stories and films we believed in. The motive was only either entertain, seek acclaim or to simply have fun at the movies!”

The note further read, “I am so proud to say that our next offering is the 24th debutant filmmaker we have introduced to Hindi cinema! (Trivia for trollers: 90% of them are ‘outsiders’). I rarely write notes before the release of a film but few films excite me, energise me and inspire me the way the process of this film has.”

Johar also praised the director and team, mentioning that they worked on the project for four years, overcoming pandemic-related delays. And he concluded the long note by expressing his hopes for the film’s success stating, “One can never predict commercial success BUT what I can say with all my heart is that this film is one of Dharma’s proudest films. I say this as a filmmaker and an audience. I pray for the team that the audience is coloured in the colour of their passion. See you at the movies.”

While Karan Johar did not reveal the film’s title, fans quickly started speculating that it could be a sequel to ‘Kesari’. Comments flooded his post with users asking, “Is this Kesari Chapter 2?” Some reports suggest that the project might star Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan. However, no official confirmation has been made yet.
