Johnny Depp is set to voice a character in the new animated film Johnny Puff: Secret Mission, created by Iervolino Entertainment, a Rome-based company. The series, featuring the versatile actor, follows the adventures of a mysterious puffin named Johnny Puff.
In Johnny Puff: Secret Mission, Depp’s character navigates a world filled with colourful and quirky characters, using a mix of humour and mystery. This role marks another venture into animation for Depp, who previously lent his voice to the lead character in the animated film Rango (2011). His performance in Rango was widely acclaimed, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2011.
Depp expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “I thought it would be great to invent a language for the character. I thought the only move now is to mix my dialogue with the actual sound of a puffin.” The results? A sea parrot in a red bandana saying things like, “Rama-lama-yama.” The creative team behind the series mirrors his enthusiasm for the role.
The film is produced by Iervolino & Lady Monika Bacardi Entertainment, a company known for its innovative and high-quality productions. Johnny Puff: Secret Mission is set to be part of the larger Puffins Impossible (2021) universe, which has already seen success with its previous iterations. While the release date for Johnny Puff: Secret Mission was slated for July 12, 2024, in seven U.S. theatres ( except in New York but includes Los Angeles), the anticipation is building.
