After opening with decent numbers despite low occupancy, Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer film Jigra performed well on the box-office on Saturday. Although Jigra continued to raise with good numbers on Saturday, there was a slight drop in the collection overall by Sunday evening. According to industry reporter Sacnilk, Jigra box office saw a total of 5.65 crores on its third day. The weekend box office reached 16.75 crores surpassing the Raaj Shaandilya comedy-entertainer movie. Jigra is directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Alia Bhatt. With an actress like Alia Bhatt, the film failing to touch the 20 crore mark is disappointing for the makers.
Right from its release, the film saw a lot of negative reviews with fans and movie critics calling out Alia Bhatt for her poor acting. Vedang Raina and the director’s execution was definitely hailed in the movie, however this movie could not stand up to the viewers’ expectation.
Jigra box office collection on Day 1 marked Alia Bhatt’s worst movie opening in a decade. There is no movie in the past featuring the actress that opened with such low numbers. The Jigra makers were also slammed by Indian director, and actress Divya Khossla Kumar who claimed that Alia has manipulated the box office collection for her film. The Yaariyan director claimed that Alia herself bought the tickets for her movie to genereate a fake box office collection, as the theatres went all empty even on the first-day of its release.
