Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has recently come under scrutiny from trolls due to a series of flops. Since 2019, he has faced a troubling streak of unsuccessful films. It is to be noted that unlike now, the actor witnessed a streak of box office hits from 2016 to 2019. However, from 2020 onwards Akshay’s films have witnessed a downward trend. This period has been marked by a noticeable decline in his box office performance, with many of his recent releases failing to succeed.
Akshay Kumar’s Back-To-Back Flop Movies
The year 2020 brought unprecedented changes to the world, and the film industry was no exception. After the COVID pandemic, Akshay Kumar’s first theatrical release was Bell Bottom, which unfortunately flopped at the box office. Since then, the superstar’s fortunes have taken a turn for the worse.
This was followed by films like Sooryavanshi which was considered as a commercial success. Since the release of Sooryavanshi in 2021, Akshay Kumar has starred in eight theatrical releases, all of which have either flopped or underperformed significantly.
The list includes films like Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, Atrangi Re, Laxmii, Bachchhan Paandey, Raksha Bandhan and others. The sole success in the past three years has been OMG 2, where he made an extended appearance.
Adding to the list of his flop films this year is “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” which was undoubtedly a box office disaster. Made on a budget of Rs 350 Crores, the film barely managed to cross the 100Cr mark at the box office becoming a major flop of 2024.
The latest film to join Akshay Kumar’s list of flops is Sarfira. With an overall budget of 80-100 crores, the movie opened to a disappointing Rs 2.5 crore at the box office. After its first week, it has grossed just ₹19.15 crore. The film is far from recouping its production costs and can be classified as another flop for Akshay Kumar this year.
With the series of flops lately, many fans have been wondering if the actor’s golden era has now been over for good.
Akshay Kumar’s Upcoming Films
In 2024, Akshay Kumar has had two releases so far, with more upcoming films: Khel Khel Mein in August, Sky Force in October, and Singham Again for Diwali. He’s also rumored to have a cameo in Stree 2 this August. Despite his recent string of flops, he’s anticipated to make a major comeback with upcoming franchise films like Jolly LLB 3, Welcome to the Jungle, and Hera Pheri 3.
