First Trailer for A24’s ‘Y2K’ Released, Starring Rachel Zegler and Explosive New Year’s Eve Adventure

A24 Drops Trailer for 'Y2K,' a High-Energy Comedy Set on the Brink of the Millennium, Featuring Rachel Zegler

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming comedy Y2K, a film that promises to take audiences on a wild ride back to the turn of the millennium. The movie, directed by Kyle Mooney and written by Evan Winter, stars Rachel Zegler in the lead role.

Set on New Year’s Eve 1999, Y2K follows a group of teenagers as they navigate a night of chaos and adventure, fueled by the widespread fear of a technological meltdown as the clocks tick over to the year 2000. The film blends nostalgia, humour, and the unique anxieties of the era into a high-energy narrative that captures the cultural moment when the world was on the brink of a new millennium

Rachel Zegler, known for her breakout role in West Side Story, takes centre stage in the film as one of the main characters who finds herself caught up in the night’s whirlwind of events. Her performance showcased in the trailer, hints at a blend of charm and comedic timing that adds a dynamic edge to the film’s ensemble cast.

The trailer offers a glimpse of the film’s vibrant atmosphere, with fast-paced scenes that depict the chaos of the Y2K party scene, complete with rave culture, tech fears, and the relentless pursuit of a good time. From crowded house parties to unexpected mishaps, the preview teases a night where anything can happen and probably will.

Director Kyle Mooney, making his feature directorial debut, has crafted a story that taps into the absurdity and excitement of the Y2K scare, while also reflecting on the simpler, more carefree days of teenage life at the dawn of the digital age.

The film is produced by Christopher Storer, Evan Winter, Alison Goodwin, Matt Dines, Jonah Hill, and Cooper Wehde., whose involvement signals the film’s commitment to delivering sharp, character-driven comedy.

Y2K is slated for release later this year on December 6 and is already generating excitement as a potential hit. Earlier this year, in March, the film premiered at South by Southwest. With its nostalgic setting, a strong cast, and the creative backing of A24, the film is poised to resonate with both those who lived through the era and a younger audience curious about the not-so-distant past.
