From So-Called Gutter To Stardom, Ronit Roy Acknowledges Ekta Kapoor For His Transformative Journey

Ronit Roy has done 3 shows per year for Balaji productions, like “Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko”, “Kasamh Se”, “Kayamath”, “Bandini” and many others.

Ronit Roy, a successful name in the television industry, gives credit for his long-running, cherished journey to Ekta Kapoor. Ronit Roy started as a part of the production team and later on evolved himself into acting. But after the success of his first film “Jaan Tere Naam”, the graph of his achievements started falling. His drinking habit and other life mistakes destroyed his career before it got shaped. But Ekta Kapoor entered in his life and became a beacon for him. With the backing of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, Ronit Roy made his comeback and hit the television screen for the next 10 years. He shared his exclusive journey with Lehren Retro.

Ronit Roy started working with Balaji Telefilms owned by Ekta Kapoor in the year 2000 on, non-regular basis. One fine day, TV producer Nivedita Basu called him and told him about a character role in Ekta Kapoor’s serial. She told Ronit, “Ekta ne bola hai, tumko karna hai” and, of course, he said yes as he was desperately in search of work. So, from 2001 full-fledged work started, and he got two serial at a time; “Kasautii Zindagii Kay” and “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”. Mihir Virani From Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Mr. Bajaj from Kasautii Zindagii Kay gave him immense popularity. And since then, he has done 3 shows per year for Balaji productions, like “Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko”, “Kasamh Se”, “Kayamath”, “Bandini” and many others.

He salutes Ekta for the kind of workaholic life she gave him, which made him happy for real. He used to do very hectic shifts and would not go home. He had done one shift from 7 am – 7 pm for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and then another 12 hours for Kasautii Zindagii Kay, as both serials were running parallel. Not only his work, but he was like a gatekeeper who would be sent to help any actor on the set because he had gone through that difficult phase for 9 years. Balaji and Ekta coming to Ronit Roy’s life changed him completely.

He narrated an incident meeting Ekta Kapoor. He said, “We got an invite to Ekta Kapoor’s Diwali party. I had met Neelam (wife) at that time. Mihir and Bajaj had gone through the roof. But our access to the Ekta was very limited. Neelam and I went to her house for the Diwali party and I met Ekta for 20 seconds. And I told her that the only gift that I can give you this Diwali is my dedication as an actor.”

When he was asked about the equation he shares with Ekta, he answered, “Ekta is my boss. Even if today she tells me that ‘come, I wanted you to do this’, I will proudly happily do that.”
