During an exclusive chat, Aruna Irani shared how Mehmood Ali stepped in during the early phase of her career. He not only mentored her but also gave her the breakthrough as a lead actress in Bombay to Goa, which he produced and acted in himself. She recalled how this opportunity opened doors for her and many filmmakers began approaching her for lead roles after that. Further sharing an incident, Aruna said that even Vinod Khanna once asked Mehmood about casting her as a heroine. She recalled, “Vinod Khanna asked ‘Bhaijaan, Aruna mere sath picture karegi as a heroine?’ (Vinod Khanna asked, ‘Bhaijaan, will Aruna act as a heroine with me?’).”

However, things took a complicated turn due to their growing closeness, especially beacuse Mehmood Ali was already married at that time. Aruna went on to share a moment that left a lasting impact on her. She said, “Then Vinod ji asked Mehmood, ‘Accha par ek baat batao aapne shaadi kar li hai Aruna se?’ (Okay, but tell me one thing, have you married Aruna?).”

Recalling Mehmood’s reaction, Aruna said, “Unhone mere taraf sirf hass diya. Kuch bola nahi (He just smiled at me. He didn’t say anything).” Right after that, she firmly expressed, “He made my career and ruined my career. Dono cheez unhone hi ki (Both things he did himself).”
