Stephen Amell Is First Actor Not Backing Hollywood Strike, Stating, “I Find The Entire Thing Incredibly Frustrating”

The Strike Has Had Significant Implications, Leading To The Postponement Of This Year's Emmy Awards

Hollywood’s strike has entered its third week, with actors and writers demanding better compensation and assurances to protect their work from being replaced by artificial intelligence (AI).

A number of top A-list actors have lent their support to the strike, including George Clooney, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Chastain, Michael Shannon, Brendan Fraser, and BD Wong. In a noteworthy gesture, Dwayne Johnson generously donated a “record” seven-figure sum to SAG-AFTRA, for the cause.

However, amidst the solidarity, there is one actor who is not backing the ongoing strike – Stephen Amell, known for his roles in “Arrow” and wrestling drama “Heels.” During a Q&A session at Galaxycon in North Carolina, Amell made his stance clear, stating, “I support my union, I do. And I stand with them. I do not support striking. I don’t. I think that it is a reductive negotiating tactic.”

He continued, “I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. I think the thinking as it pertains to shows – like the show that I’m on that premiered last night – I think it’s myopic.”

The strike has had significant implications, leading to the postponement of this year’s Emmy Awards. It marks the first time in two decades that the prestigious ceremony has been rescheduled. The last time such an adjustment occurred was in 2001, following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, leading to the awards airing in early November that year.

As the strike continues, Hollywood grapples with the complex challenge of addressing the demands while considering the impact on the industry and its stakeholders.

Earlier, Barry Diller, Chairman of IAC and Expedia. In an interview with CBS News, he expressed concerns about the potential devastating effects if the strike continues. Diller, a former CEO of Paramount Pictures, warned that these conditions could lead to a complete collapse of the industry.
