Bringing up the details, Winfrey told that Rivers upfrontly asked her about Why was she so fat?, and how Winfrey, left with no choice, accepted it at the end.

In a latest appearance made on “the Jamie Kern Lima” podcast , American talk show host and actor, Oprah Winfrey has come out recalling the time when she was body shamed by Joan Rivers for her extra weight.

Recently in a conversation with the podcast host, Oprah talked about the time when she made her first appearance in “The Tonight Show” back in 1985. It was then when she went through some hurtful comments on her weight by Rivers, who is an American stand up comedian, and actor.

Bringing up the details, Winfrey told that Rivers upfrontly asked her about Why was she so fat?. She added, “On national television, and I don’t know what to do with that.” She said she tried to turn the conversation lighter by saying that she just loves potato chips. To her surprise, Joan replied, “Shame on you”, which was her extending the topic.

Left with nothing to say, Oprah said she had to agree to what the host, Rivers, said that day and accepted it. In fact, Rivers even exclaimed later, “I’ll let you come back if you lose 15 lbs. You need to lose 15 lbs.” Comments like these on a national screen is absolutely humiliating and now that Oprah brought this up, fans feel bad for her.

Winfrey,70, while speaking to the podcast host also revealed that she  believed the reason behind her losing a role in The Color Purple, was purely because of her weight and that she appeared overweight on screen. Rivers’ remarks, back then, had impacted the American actress so much that she even tried visiting a health retreat, to lose weight.
