Madonna Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Concert Delays

Madonna's "Celebration" tour, celebrating her four decades in the music industry, commenced in October with an initial delay from its originally scheduled start in July 2023.

Iconic pop sensation Madonna and Live Nation find themselves entangled in a legal battle as two fans, Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, file a class-action lawsuit citing “false advertising” due to the singer’s delayed performances during her “Celebration” tour stops at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, claims that the Queen of Pop consistently started her shows late, deviating from the scheduled 8:30 p.m. ET start time to a delayed 10:30 p.m. ET.

The legal action revolves around Madonna’s performances on December 13, 14, and 16, 2023, where the plaintiffs argue that the consistently tardy starts constitute a “wanton exercise in false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.” Fellows and Hadden are seeking unspecified damages in their lawsuit.

However, a source close to Madonna countered these claims, stating last month to Page Six that the delays were a result of technical issues encountered during her sound check. The source implied that Madonna’s commitment to delivering a high-quality performance contributed to the delays.

Madonna’s “Celebration” tour, celebrating her four decades in the music industry, commenced in October with an initial delay from its originally scheduled start in July 2023. The postponement was attributed to Madonna’s hospitalization due to a “serious” bacterial infection, underscoring the challenges faced by the artist in ensuring the tour’s successful launch.

As legal proceedings unfold, Madonna’s tardiness and the reasons behind it remain a subject of dispute between disappointed fans and the singer’s camp. The lawsuit reflects the challenges of balancing artistic perfection with audience expectations in the dynamic world of live performances.
