Chris Hemsworth’s Health Scare: Actor Adopts New Lifestyle to Ward Off Alzheimer’s Disease

Hemsworth Acknowledged The Challenges His Fluctuating Weight Presents, Attributing It To His Diverse Roles And His Personal Interest

Renowned actor Chris Hemsworth, best known for his iconic role as Thor in the Marvel cinematic universe, recently opened up about his health scare and the changes he’s making in his lifestyle to mitigate the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

While filming the National Geographic and Disney+ docuseries, “Limitless,” in 2022, Hemsworth received an unexpected revelation about his health. He learned that he is at risk of Alzheimer’s disease, a condition he is determined to avoid.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Hemsworth discussed the alterations he’s making to his daily routine for improved well-being.

“I’ve always been pretty consistent with my exercise commitments, but lately I’ve really felt the importance of taking time for yourself without any outside voice or stimulation and making time for stillness,” Hemsworth shared with Men’s Health.

Mindfulness has become a key focus for the actor, who is now prioritizing ample sleep and regular ice baths as part of his health regimen.

Hemsworth acknowledged the challenges his fluctuating weight presents, attributing it to his diverse roles and his personal interest in pushing his body’s limits.

“My weight fluctuates a lot due to differing roles and also my own interests in regards to challenging my body in different ways,” explained Hemsworth. “I’m lifting less frequently than I was and I’m incorporating more cardio and endurance workouts, which I much prefer than heavy body-building style sessions,” he added.

A significant factor influencing Hemsworth’s health journey is his genetic predisposition. His DNA carries two copies of the gene APOE4, which increases his vulnerability to Alzheimer’s disease by eight to 10 times. This condition places him among the exclusive two to three percent of the world’s population with a similar vulnerability due to inheriting the gene from both parents.

Despite these challenges, Chris Hemsworth remains dedicated to maintaining his health and well-being.
