Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 Director Sangeeth Sivan Passes Away At 61

On Wednesday, May 8, filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan, renowned for his cult film Yoddha featuring Mohanlal in the lead role, passed away.

On May 8, in Mumbai, filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan passed away at the age of 61. Although the specific cause of his death has not been disclosed, reports suggest that he faced complications from an infection. Sivan had a prolific career primarily in the Malayalam film industry, but he also ventured into Hindi cinema. He gained prominence for directing the cult film Yoddha starring Mohanlal. In Hindi cinema, he was known for directing movies such as Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Apna Sapna Money Money, and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.

The sudden passing of Sivan has left film enthusiasts and celebrities in disbelief. Riteish Deshmukh, who collaborated with Sivan on films like Kyaa Kool Hai Hum and Apna Sapna Money Money, expressed his condolences on X.

He wrote, “Deeply saddened and shocked to know that Sangeeth Sivan Sir is no more. As a newcomer all you want is someone to believe in you and take a chance.. can’t thank him enough for Kya Kool Hai Hum & Apna Sapna Money Money, Soft spoken, gentle and a wonderful human being. Am heart broken today, my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, his wife, kids, brothers. I will miss you Da !!!!! And your infectious laughter!!! Rest in Glory,” he added while sharing a picture of the filmmaker.”

Grieving his death actor Tusshar Kapoor also offered his condolences and wrote, “Don’t have words to describe what I’m feeling right now…. A mentor of sorts, someone who introduced me to comedy with #KyakoolHainHum is no more! Sangeeth ji, I had the honour of working with you again recently but it’ll take me a long time to get over this sad news! RIP sir you will be missed! #SangeethSivan #gem.”

Actor Sunny Deol who worked with Sangeeth Sivan also expressed his shock and wrote, “Shocked to hear about the passing away of my dear friend Sangeeth Sivan. I can’t believe that you are no longer amongst us, but you will always be with us in our hearts and memories. Om Shanti, my friend, may your family get the strength to overcome your loss.

Sivan’s family has not yet released a statement regarding his demise. His final project was in 2019, marking his debut in the OTT space with the web series named Bhram, featuring Kalki Koechlin in the lead role.
