Akshay Kumar is gearing up for his upcoming movie “OMG 2,” and he’s pulling out all the stops to promote the film. However, an old video has now gone viral, featuring his alleged former girlfriend Raveena Tandon discussing their engagement in the year 1995.
In an interview with Simi Garewal on her talk show “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal,” Raveena revealed that she took a hiatus from acting for two years because she wanted a simpler life after her wedding. She explained, “It was a voluntary decision. I was engaged to somebody I knew. This is what I wanted, to lead a very normal life. I quit in advance before marriage because we did think that when there will be the last day of my shoot, we will go ahead and get married,” as shown in the vintage video.
When she decided to resume her career, she was offered the opportunity to quit the industry once again, but this time she declined. “Once I re-started my career, he again said that leave it and we will go ahead with the wedding. But, then I told him that once I chose you over my career, but now I will choose my career over you.”
When Simi asked Raveena about the strong rumors of her 1995 marriage to Akshay, she clarified that it was an elaborate engagement, not a wedding. She recounted, “No. (It) was a very, very elaborate engagement ceremony with a pandit doing the pujas and everything, with his whole family flying down from Delhi as well. My family flying down from Delhi as well. One of the elders had put a red dupatta on my head. I think that was mistaken to be a wedding which was not.”
However, both have moved on in their lives: Raveena is married to Anil Thadani, and Akshay is married to Twinkle Khanna.
Turning to “OMG 2,” the film is set to hit theaters on August 11, starring Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in lead roles. However, it will face a box office clash with Sunny Deol’s “Gadar,” the second installment of the franchise.
