At a press conference held in Mumbai a few days ago, actor Anupam Kher had shared his family’s experience during the exodus. With tears in his eyes, the actor said, “My mother’s younger brother saved his hard-earned money the entire life and built a home in Srinagar in 1987. He was very happy to finally have his own home. And after 6-7 months, he started receiving threats that he must leave the valley. He was told that they have killed his neighbour and if doesn’t leave, he would be next. So, one night, he and his family left the valley in a Fiat car. They were four people- my uncle, his wife and their two children. Whatever belongings of their lifetime they could stuff in that car, they did, and they settled in Delhi. He was so traumatised by this incident that he died after 3 years or so. My mother always talks about them.”
