Urmila Matondkar Turns 50: When The “Judaai” Actress Got Compared With Her Co-star Sridevi

Urmila Matondkar gave a humble reply when she was asked about Sridevi's appearance with her in the movie "Judaai". Well, there was always a healthy competition between these co-actresses.

Urmila Matondkar, an actress who is known for her sizzling, stunning looks with multifaceted acting skills, completed the golden jubilee of her life i.e. actress is celebrating her 50th birthday today on February 4. Urmila started her career as a child actress and gradually graced the silver screen through various blockbusters like “Rangeela”, “Satya”, “Pinjar”, “Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya” and many others. She is the one who is known to portray the varied characters after Sridevi. But once upon a time, both actresses, Sridevi and Urmila Matondkar, shared a screen and at that time there was a kind of indirect comparison between them. In an exclusive interview with Lehren Retro, Urmila shared her experience of working with Sridevi in the film “Judaai”, along with Anil Kapoor.

Urmila Matondkar was one of the leads in the film “Judaai” directed by Raj Kanwar. This movie, released in 1997, was a romantic comedy film and all the three actors, Urmila Matondkar, Anil Kapoor and Sridevi were the leads of the movie. During the shoot of Anil and Urmila’s song “Mujhe Pyar Hua Allamiya”, she was asked about her appearance on screen with Sridevi. She said that, “Sridevi has been in the industry for a very long time, and she is one of the best performers as well as an actress. I haven’t even done 1/10th of her total movies and that’s a fact.” Although Urmila had worked for almost 7–8 years as an adult artist in the industry, she humbly accepted the versatile skills of her co-star Sridevi. Later she talked about the movie, saying, “There are two roles, I am doing it, let’s see how it comes out.” When Judaai got released, it received tremendous love from the audience and the film was a commercial success. The song Mujhe Pyar Hua Allamiya, choreographed by Saroj Khan, was a hit. It featured the elegant yet polished dance adeptness of Urmila Matondkar. 

Urmila made her appearance as an adult artist in the industry in 1991 with Narsimha and her success graph started growing steadily. Not just into acting, but she later stepped into politics as she joined Shivsena in the year 2020. Urmila hasn’t been very active in film industry from past few years. She was last seen in the movie “Blackmail” in 2018. Now it’s said that in 2024, she will appear in many movies. Earlier last year, she was about to make her OTT debut through the series “Tiwari” but there is no solid news about the release of this series.
