Sushmita Sen, who was making continuous headlines recently because of her boyfriend Rohman Shawl, in an interview with MidDay shared her amazing life experiences and fluctuations in her career. She talked about the major reason behind having a years-long gap in her career when it was at the turn of getting more glamorous and successful.
Miss Universe 1994, Sushmita Sen took a gap of almost 8 years in the Bollywood industry. Her last movie before quitting was ‘No Problem’, released in 2010, and after that she just disappeared. Talking about her comeback, she mentioned that her daughter Alisa was the reason behind it.
Sushmita Sen has two daughters, Renee, the elder one and Alisa, the younger one. Both of them are adopted. During that period, Sushmita was experiencing her motherhood for the second time and Alisa was just a month older at that time. Sushmita decided to sit back to nurture that child. She said, “I did have my then manager and people from the industry, friends who said, ‘You are making a very big blunder. This is your prime age as an actor; you don’t quit at this point.’ But inside, there is a voice that’s saying, No, don’t do it. And I have to listen to that voice because it has worked for me my whole life.”
She told that she was aware of this male-driven industry and she never meant to quit, but was just taking a break, which then continued a little longer, for almost 8 years. When Alisa was 8, she curiously asked Sushmita about her fame when she spotted some paparatz under her house. Sharing this experience, Sushmita said, “Alisa asked me why they took pictures with you, I said, because I am kind of famous. But doing what?, she asked. I was Miss Universe. But that was a long time ago, mom, she said. Yes, but I am also an actor. But you don’t act. Yes, because I am sitting here with you, I wanted to be with you, I said. And she told me, you just don’t do it mom, I don’t need you. At that time, I realized the time had come.”
Alisa’s that simple conversation with mother Sushmita, made her realise that she didn’t need to make any excuses about her and that was the hard time she should get back to work. And this is how Aarya happened.
