Amid the nationwide lockdown because of the novel coronavirus outbreak, theatres across the country have been shut down to combat the spread of the virus. With theatres being shut down many filmmakers had to push the release date of their movies while some of them considered releasing their film on a digital medium. During the lockdown, people are consuming more of the content on the OTT platforms which seems like a good opportunity to skip the theatrical release.
With that being said, Shoojit Sircar directed Gulabo Sitabo featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan is all set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The streaming giant announced the global premiere of Gulabo Sitabo. The film will be available in 200 countries and territories worldwide.
The director and Head, Content, Amazon Prime Video, India said, “At Amazon, we’re listening to our customers, and working backward from there. Gulabo Sitabo is one of the most anticipated films of the year. We are happy to exclusively premiere Gulabo Sitabo on Prime Video. It is the first step in our endeavor to bring superior cinematic experiences to our customer’s doorstep.”
Confirming the same, ace director Shoojit Sircar said, “This is the dawn of a new era for Indian entertainment. I am happy that a global audience will be able to watch our gritty dramedy, and enjoy what the film has in store for them. Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky, light-hearted movie that the audience can enjoy with their families. It has been a wonderful experience working with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana on the film.”
Speaking about the film Amitabh Bachchan quoted, “Gulabo Sitabo is a slice of life, a dramedy that is a must-watch for families at home. I was excited about my role since the first time Shoojit showed me the character’s look. It took me almost 3 hours each day to get into character with its different looks.”
Praising his co-star Ayushmann Khurrana, the 77-year old actor said, “I had a wonderful time working with my very talented co-star Ayushmann Khurrana. Even though we are constantly bantering in the film, it has been a pleasure working with him for the first time.”
Amitabh concluded by saying, “This family entertainer has the power to cut across geographic boundaries and we are pleased to bring Gulabo Sitabo to audiences across the globe.”
Ayushmann Khurrana too expressed his joy of being part of Gulabo Sitabo and said that it was great reuniting with his mentor Shoojit Sircar with whom he worked on Vicky Donor. The Dream Girl actor also mentioned that he is very thankful to Shoojit to again make him a part of his vision.
Elated Ayushmann also said it was an honor to share the screen space with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and it was his dream come true moment. He further added that he gained a lot of lessons working with the legend and it is once in a lifetime kind of experience.
Gulabo Sitabo was scheduled to release on April 17, 2020. Now, the film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 12, 2020.
