The much-anticipated third installment of the hit Fukrey franchise, “Fukrey 3,” has hit the big screen, and it’s already making waves at the box office. On its opening day, this uproarious comedy managed to rake in an impressive Rs 8.50 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This achievement is even more remarkable when you consider the competition it faced from Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster “Jawan.” Moreover, the makers of Fukrey 3 also suffered a setback as the film was leaked on torrent sites and Youtube a few days before its release.
“Fukrey Returns,” the second chapter released in 2017, started with a bang, collecting Rs 8.10 crore on its opening day. Ultimately, it tallied an impressive Rs 80.32 crore during its theatrical run. On the other hand, the original “Fukrey,” which graced the screens in 2013, managed Rs 36.5 crore during its time in the limelight.
“Fukrey 3” faced off against Vivek Agnihotri’s “The Vaccine War,” but it seems this battle was one-sided. “The Vaccine War” struggled to make a dent in the box office, mustering only Rs 1.3 crore on its opening day. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” which had been dominating the box office for weeks, continued its triumphant run. Even with a ‘buy 1 get 1’ ticket offer, “Jawan” showed no signs of slowing down. On its 22nd day, it added another Rs 5.50 crore to its impressive domestic collection, now standing at a staggering Rs 581.43 crore.
Directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, who previously helmed the first two entries in the series, “Fukrey 3” boasts an ensemble cast featuring Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi, Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, and more. With its roaring start at the box office, it seems that the Fukrey magic is still very much alive and kicking, promising audiences more laughter and mischief in the adventures to come.
