Dulquer Salmaan revealed paycheck for his first acting job was merely 2000 Rs and it had nothing to do with nepotism

Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salman has been serving the film industry for almost 10 years now. He is the son of popular Malayalam actor Mammootty, however, nepotism had nothing to do with his career. He spoke on the impact of nepotism on his first role and the paycheck he received.

Dulquer was last seen in the latest release Chup: Revenge of the Artist, helmed by R Balki. During the promotions of the film, the actor recalled the time when he was offered his first role and also the salary that he had received. In an interview with a leading media portal, Dulquer revealed being a son of Mammootty had nothing to do with his first break. He also disclosed his salary as an actor was as low as Rs 2000.

He said, “I was 10 years old. This has nothing to do with my dad, this is not some nepotism advantage. I was randomly picked by Mr. Rajiv Menon’s ad agency. They came to my school to pick kids for a TVC and I was one of those who got picked. They gave me ₹ 2,000 for that.”

The actor added, “It was like unheard of money, like it was 2 crore of something. I was like 10 or 9 years old. I gave ₹ 500 to my grandparents and rest to my mother. And then I used to keep being like that ‘Maa that ₹ 2,000 I have no, can I buy this.’ So then my mom is like ‘you finished that ₹ 2,000 long ago.’ She still talks about this.”

Dulquer’s latest movie Chup: Revenge Of the Artist, was released in theatres on September 23. The movie is a tribute to legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt. Directed by R Balki, the action-thriller also stars Sunny Deol, Shreya Dhanwanthary, and Pooja Bhatt.
