Anu Aggarwal is highly regarded amongst the top actresses of the 90’s era in Indian Cinema. The artist made her starry debut in the Hindi Film Industry opposite Rahul Roy in their mega hit musical movie Aashiqui (1990). Post the success of her blockbuster Aashiqui on screen, the actress became the new leading lady of B-Town in turn embracing a huge fan following topped with a number of hit chartbuster songs in her palette. Anu has also starred in numerous big Bollywood films including King Uncle, Janam Kundli, Khal-Naaikaa & The Return Of Jewel Thief.
In an exclusive interview with Lehren, Anu Aggarwal got candid about her Aashiqui Debut, the film’s success, childhood, yoga & much more.
On being asked about her selection in Aashiqui as the main lead by filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Anu replied that Mr Bhatt met her at a friend’s place during a get-together. She added that destiny plays a big role in such things in life as the actress was all set to leave for Paris & wasn’t interested to be part of Hindi Films due to the typical roles & cliché characters offered to female actors during those times, which she wasn’t enough fond off portraying. Aggarwal expressed being an actor since her childhood who used to perform monologues on stage which were 12 pages long in length & that too with utmost perfection. She revealed that acting was deep rooted in her soul as she was always inclined towards it since a young age. The artist also added about performing legendary writer Kamala Das’ monologue in her theatre days.
Talking about her film Aashiqui’s success & witnessing stardom, The Aashiqui Actress narrated an interesting incident, where the latter had to vacate her p.g accomodation as fans used to gather around the premises, just in order to greet their favourite leading lady star. She added that the situation ended up being a tough one for her as the actress had to hunt for a new place to reside due to the starstrucked activities of her fans.
While concluding, the Aashiqui Girl mentioned that she isn’t in touch with her movie co-stars and doesn’t attend any of the Bollywood starry parties. Aggarwal also elaborated about her yoga journey & fitness regime & gave her honest take on Aashiqui 2 at the end of the conversation.
