Amjad Khan Once Scolded Suresh Oberoi For His Role In “Ek Baar Phir” And Said, ‘Aise Hote Hain Superstar’

In an interview, Suresh shared this encounter, revealing Amjad Khan's initial disapproval, later softened by understanding.

Amjad Khan was one of the iconic villains of Bollywood, renowned for his portrayal of Gabbar in ‘Sholay.’ However, few know about his connection with Suresh Oberoi and how he criticized a particular role of Suresh, leaving him in tears in front of 20 to 25 people.

In an exclusive interview with Lehren, Suresh revealed that he was a big fan of the actor and once met Amjad Khan during a film shoot. ‘I was playing a police officer in a film when I saw Amjad Khan there; I’m a big fan of his. I went to meet him and said, “Sir, I am Suresh Oberoi.” He responded, “Oh, you are the one who did ‘Ek Baar Phir.’ Aise hote hain superstars? Do we show these things on screen?” So, this is also something I’ve seen in my life. Later, Anand Sagar made him realize that he couldn’t speak in that way. Actually, my role in ‘Ek Baar Phir’ was shown in very low light with girls and money, which was a little exaggerated. Vinod Pande made it a little extra.’

Continuing, ‘But in the end, I said to Amjad Khan, “A person who barely has money and someone comes and promises him money, makes him a hero, and offers an opportunity to go to London, will you deny that offer?” Then he said, “Yeah, you are right. If Dharmendra would have done this, it would not be fair; but a newcomer. Okay. If you need any help anytime, come to me, I am there.”‘

The movie ‘Ek Baar Phir’ was released in 1980, after which Suresh landed roles in hit films like ‘Namak Halaal,’ ‘Laawaris,’ and many more. Recently, he was seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal,’ which has become a superhit at the box office.
