Cynthia Erivo is adding another project to her busy schedule. The Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning artist has signed on for Lionsgate’s upcoming action-thriller Karoshi – alongside Past Lives actor Teo Yoo and 1883 star Isabel May. The film is written and directed by Takashi Doscher and is described as a corporate thriller with a samurai twist!
What is ‘Karoshi’ About?
Details about the storyline and characters remain under wraps. However, the title Karoshi refers to Japanese term meaning “death from overwork”. Reports suggest that the film will have a revenge-driven plot and will be set in a Japanese-influenced New York City. Production is expected to begin in June 2025. The project is backed by 87Eleven Entertainment the team which is highly known for John Wick film series. Chad Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Splitz are producing through their first-look deal with Lionsgate. Given their involvement, Karoshi could feature intense action sequences and a strong visual style.

She is also set to play the lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl, host the 2025 Tony Awards and star as multiple characters in Season 2 of Poker Face. Additionally, she is currently filming Children of Blood and Bone, dirrected by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
