Can ‘Dhadak 2’ Match The Magic Of ‘Saiyaara’?

With Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda - Saiyaara’s ₹281 Cr magic being still fresh, can Siddhant Chaturvedi And Triptii Dimri's 'Dhadak 2' repeat the emotional and box office success story?

The Success of Saiyaara amid Dhadak 2 release

Released just two weeks ago on 18 July 2025, Saiyaara took everyone by its unexpected storm. Directed by Mohit Suri, a name that’s synonym to intense love stories and soulful music, this directorial film introduced newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Yet, it didn’t feel like a debut film. It felt sincere, passionate and relatable for the audience with its deeply connected plot and stron performances. With a net box office collection of ₹281 crore in India till now to almost touching ₹500 crore mark worldwide soon, Saiyaara didn’t just do numbers it sparked conversations!

The film’s strength? Its emotional honesty. The story of two young lovers navigating heartbreak, hope and resilience in a complicated world seamlessly struck a chord with today’s generation. Talking about the film’s music, especiallt the title track Saiyaara, became a national anthem for heartbreak. Audiences felt something real and they came back to theatres for it.

Dhadak 2 Walks In

Now comes Dhadak 2, which hit theatres today. This time, it’s not newcomers but it features already established talented actors Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri -stepping into the space of wholesome romance. Directed by debutant Shazia Iqbal, the film touches on a sensitive yet essential subject focusing on caste-based discrimination in love.

And Nilesh and Vidhi’s story mirrors reality. They fall in love but society’s invisible lines threaten to tear them apart. While the plot sounds familiar, the backdrop gives it depth. Critics are already calling Siddhant and Triptii’s performances are best of their careers. But can it really match Saiyaara’s emotional wave and cultural impact?

Chemistry: Ahaan-Aneet vs. Siddhant-Triptii

One key reason for Saiyaara’s rise was the crackling chemistry between Ahaan and Aneet. There was a raw vulnerability in their performances that felt honest and deeply connected to viewers. Despite the cast being new, they didn’t seem like they were acting they lived those roles. On the other hand, Triptii and Siddhant are already known faces who has given multiple impressive films to Bollywood. While this helps to bring immediate attention of audience but it also sets higher expectations. And as per first reactions, their chemistry is being widely appreciated and works beautifully. But it remains to be seen if it resonates as deeply across age groups like Saiyaara did.

Post-Saiyaara, What Do Audiences Expect?

There’s been a wide shift. It was the time when romantic dramas were almost fading away from Bollywood until now with back-to-back releases. While these genre being often criticized for being predictable or overly dramatic but Saiyaara reminded viewers why we fell in love with Bollywood love stories in the first place – it felt real!

And Dhadak 2 is arriving at a time when audiences want depth, not gloss. They want music that lingers, moments that stay with them and love stories that reflects society. The caste angle gives it that cultural relevance but whether it can build on Saiyaara’s momentum is still a big question.

Music, Direction & Staying Power

Mohit Suri’s direction in Saiyaara leaned into emotion without being loud. The songs blended into the story, not just used for effect. Shazia Iqbal though being a first-time director brings a fresh voice and vision. Early reviews suggest she’s succeeded in balancing storytelling with sensitivity. On the other hand, music-wise Dhadak 2 is more subtle, more focused on narrative than chart-toppers. This could work in its favour long-term but may lack the immediate hook which Saiyaara had.

Final Word: Match, Miss or Make New?

As per the early estimates by Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 has started modestly with ₹1.43 Cr on day one. It’s not about the number yet but it’s about the journey ahead. If word-of-mouth works, this caste-crossed love story can grow just like the way Saiyaara did. So, can Dhadak 2 match Saiyaara film’s success? Maybe. Will it define its own legacy? That’s more likely. One gave audiences a reason to believe in love stories again. The other might just give them a reason to look deeper into love itself.

Only time will tell.
