Bradley Cooper On His Struggle With Drugs And Alcohol: ‘I Felt Like Life Was Meaningless, I Thought, ‘I’m Going To Die’

Cooper Revealed That His Journey To Sobriety Began After A Conversation With His Roommate And Actor Will Arnett In 2004

Bradley Cooper has shared his struggle with drugs and alcohol in a recent episode of the National Geographic series “Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge.” When asked by Bear Grylls about his past, Cooper admitted, “I definitely had some wild years.” He clarified that his struggles with alcohol and drugs weren’t related to his fame.

Cooper revealed that his journey to sobriety began after a conversation with his roommate and actor Will Arnett in 2004. Unfortunately, his battle with addiction resurfaced when he lost his father to lung cancer in 2011.

Recalling those difficult times, Cooper said, “I felt like life was meaningless. I thought, ‘I’m going to die.'” However, he gradually realized that he needed to accept himself and find inner peace, which eventually brought stability to his life.

Despite these challenges, Cooper managed to overcome them and took on the role of a director in “A Star Is Born,” where he starred alongside Lady Gaga. He portrayed the character Jackson Maine, a struggling musician facing personal demons.

Reflecting on his career, Cooper expressed gratitude, saying, “I’ve been very lucky with the roles I’ve had to play. It’s been a real blessing. I hope I get to keep doing it.” His journey continues as he’s set to appear in the Netflix movie “Maestro,” a biographical film about Leonard Bernstein.

Bradley Cooper’s story is a reminder that even in the face of difficulties, with determination and self-discovery, one can navigate life’s challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.
