There’s no relief for the makers of movie “Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar” as the Bombay High Court on Friday continues to block the release of the film. The court judge announced that the name of the film is unuathorisingly showcasing the filmmaker Karan Johar’s involvement in the film, and is violating his personality rights. The case was imposed back in the month of June, last year and the makers are juggling with the court case so far. However, there comes no relief as new orders did not agree to lift the stay from the film’s release.

Bombay High Court Refuses To Lift Stay
Justice Riyaz Chagla on Friday announced, “the makers of the film ‘unauthorisedly’ by using Johar’s name and personality attributes in the title of their film, prima facie, violated his personality rights, publicity rights and also his right to privacy.” Adding further he stated that he has created numerous blockbuster films in his career, and has garnered only goodwill from the public so far. This name of the movie has the chance of putting him into a negative light and can be bad for his reputation.
The judge said, “A strong prima facie case has been made out by the Plaintiff (Johar) that the Respondents (filmmakers) have infringed the Plaintiff’s personality and publicity rights as well as use of the brand name of the Plaintiff. The balance of convenience is in favour of the Plaintiff and that irreparable injury would cause to the Plaintiff in the event interim relief is not granted by this Court.
Case Against Makers of Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar
Talking about the legal case, this complaint for not using the name of the filmmaker was filed by himself on June 2024, against the film producers IndiaPride Advisory, along with writer Sanjay Singh and director Bablu Singh. In the complaint he mentioned, that the makers were using his name with an intent to financially benefit from his reputation and industry standing.
While he personally had no involvement into the film or its making, he felt it incorrect to see his name being used in this manner. As a decision to the same, High Court on June 13, 2024 decided to impose a stay on the permit of film’s release. They referred how the film could mislead audiences. On the other hand, the filmmakers Sanjay and Bablu came out with the modifcation of adding a conjunction, separating the name with the surname. They argued that this modification would address the concerns raised. However, the court remained unconvinced and did not speak on their favor.
Now, almost one year after the stay imposed, Bombay High Court announces the new decision of giving them no permission to release the film. A sense of relief seems to be coming for directore Karan Johar as the judge’s decision appears to be in his favor so far.
