When life takes an unexpected turn, you often find out who stands by you. Rajpal Yadav is currently going through one such phase. The popular actor-comedian surrendered at Tihar Jail after the Delhi High Court ordered him to serve a six-month sentence in a decade-old cheque bounce case linked to his film Ata Pata Laapata.
The case dates back to 2010 when he reportedly borrowed money for his directorial project. With dues said to be around Rs 9 crore, the legal matter has now reached a critical point.
There is, however, a sense of hope. Rajpal Yadav’s manager, Goldie, confirmed that the bail hearing is scheduled for February 12. He shared, “There is a bail hearing tomorrow, and the family is hopeful that he will be out of jail.” The bail application has already been filed, and the family is waiting for the court’s decision. Goldie added that more details will be shared after the hearing.
In the middle of this difficult time, members of the film industry have stepped forward. According to Goldie, “The whole industry is coming forward to help him at this time. Sonu Sood has publicly supported him. Actors like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have taken the initiative, and even David Dhawan has told me that Varun will help him.”
He also mentioned that many others have reached out, but financial processes take time. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reportedly urged members to support the actor as well.
Rajpal Yadav’s niece’s wedding is scheduled for February 19, and the family has decided not to postpone it. They believe the celebrations will bring some normalcy during this stressful period.
Before surrendering, Rajpal had said, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain… Yahan hum sab akele hain.”
For now, all eyes are on the upcoming hearing.
