Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar’s film, The Lady Killer, directed by Ajay Bahl, is making headlines again, but not for the right reasons. Released a year ago, the film is now known as one of the biggest flops in Indian cinema. It premiered in theaters with an incomplete version and minimal promotions, leading to poor box office performance.
The Lady Killer was released on November 3, 2023, but it struggled from the start. The film had little to no promotion and was shown on very few screens across India. On its opening day, it sold only 293 tickets, grossing just ₹38,000, and its total lifetime collection was under ₹1 lakh. The film was also reported to have several editing cuts and missing voiceovers, which contributed to its failure.
Now, The Lady Killer is available for free on YouTube, having been released by T-Series. The filmmakers have made no further efforts to promote or revive the film, which led to reactions from netizens who expressed their disappointment. A Reddit post read, “Embarrassing”, and another user commented, “It earned 38k during its lifetime. No OTT platform came forward to purchase it, so T-Series released it on YouTube hoping to earn something via advertisements.”
Other users also reacted to the film’s poor performance, with comments like, “It didn’t even get an OTT release. Ouch,” and “Is this film too bad?” The film had the backing of four production companies: T-Series Films, Karma Media & Entertainment, Jussawala Productions, and Polaroid Media, yet it failed to make an impact.
On a different note, Arjun Kapoor is preparing to play a villain in the much-anticipated film Singham 3, starring alongside Ajay Devgn. Bhumi Pednekar was last seen in the thought-provoking thriller Bhakshak, directed by Pulkit.
