One viral picture was enough to send Jackie Chan fans into a panic. A black-and-white memorial-style image carrying his name and the dates “1954-2026” has been widespread across social media, with several posts claiming that one of the most recognisable names in international cinema has died at 72.
But there is a major problem with the claim – there is no credible evidence that Jackie Chan has passed away and Gulf News has also reported that the viral death posts are a hoax and that Chan is alive.
How Did Jackie Chan Death Rumour Begin?
The posts spreading online appear to have gained attention because of the memorial image which looks convincing at first glance and some its versions quickly gathered millions of views, making the claim appear real simply because so many people were sharing it.
However, though such posts have been circulating on social media but there’s no verified announcement confirming Jackie Chan’s death has emerged. The actor continues to be associated with upcoming work, while the viral posts have not provided any reliable source for their claim.
Jackie Chan’s Last Known Public Appearance
There is also a recent public record of the actor appearing in Singapore. As Jackie Chan visited Pei Chun Public School on July 7, 2026, during an event organised by the Lim Family Foundation. According to The Straits Times, he interacted with students and staff and even sang his song “Hard to Say Goodbye”.
That appearance has now resurfaced as fans search for clarity amid the latest rumours.
For now, the viral “1954-2026” memorial post should be treated as false. There is no credible confirmation of Jackie Chan’s death.
