Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol have long been regarded as the quintessential romantic pair in the industry. They have appeared together in the legendary film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, as well as in other notable works such as My Name Is Khan, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Dilwale.
Audiences have consistently appreciated their chemistry and presence in numerous romantic narratives on the silver screen. However, for several years, there have been rumors suggesting that underlying tension existed between Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan, stemming from the strong on-screen chemistry and close relationship that Kajol shares with SRK.
In a recent interview, Kajol responded to the speculation regarding her husband, Ajay, and his feelings of insecurity about her close relationship with Shah Rukh Khan. Kajol stated, “There is absolutely nothing to it; these were merely rumors. Honestly, nothing significant occurred.
They were not in a situation where they would say, ‘Hey buddy, let’s share a beer,’ but today, they have a genuine respect for one another.”
She further added, “The absence of friendship between two individuals does not imply animosity… just because they do not socialize together or take selfies does not mean they harbor hatred or speak ill of one another.”
She elaborated further that neither party involved in the friendship attempts to impose connections: “Indeed, Shah Rukh is my friend … I have never forced my friendships upon Ajay, nor has he done so with me.”
Although they do encounter each other—such as on the set of Dilwale, filmed in Bulgaria, and at Kajol’s residence—Kajol underscores that the relationship is amicable, rather than friendly: “I don’t believe there is any discomfort, but I also don’t think there is any friendship either.”
Ajay expressed similar views, stating, “We are not close friends since we do not meet frequently. Our interactions are quite casual. Whenever we do meet, we behave like colleagues… Everything is perfectly normal between us.”
She also mentioned that there exists a mutual understanding between her and Ajay. “There is no awkwardness; that is essentially a boundary. As individuals, we have our own preferences. I may enjoy certain things that he does not, and he may like things that I do not, and that is perfectly acceptable. We both agreed that this is fine. As long as I do not have to sit down and engage in whatever, I am content. You are free to go ahead, maintain friendships, and do whatever you wish,” she added.
Kajol is set to appear next in Sarazameen, a thriller featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali. The film is scheduled for release on Jio Hotstar on July 25.
